My name is Karina and I’ve always wanted to write a blog but never manage to find about what. Now that I am starting to study in the University of Life as a mom, it only makes sense that I combine this with my other passion, Technology. After all we are no more than the sum of all our talents, and I really hope to graduate with honours!
As I am writing these lines, I am 33w5d pregnant of our first child and I cannot feel more excited and scared at the same time (the same feeling I had the months before starting university). I am organised (a bit on the control freak side) and I have an app, method or theory for everything! I like to try new things, travel and read, and tell whoever wants to hear me out about it so I’ll use this blog for that! Hope you enjoy it!!
I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. I have lived so far in 4 different cities, travelled to at least 10 different countries and gained a new nationality in the process. When I was 15, I had my career goals figured out, I used to say: “I am going to study Computer Engineer in Universidad Simon Bolivar. After graduation, I want to work a couple of years in Venezuela before moving to Europe, probably Spain, There a want to work a couple more years and see how it is, if I like it I’ll stay, otherwise I’ll move on to my next adventure in an English speaking country, something like UK or USA. And if I don’t like it there, I’ll come back to Venezuela.”
Well, so far three ticks in that list! I graduated in 2009 as Computer Engineer in Universidad Simon Bolivar. In 2010, I moved to Madrid, Spain and I lived there until 2014 when I got an amazing job opportunity at AOL in London. I have been living here ever since!
During my career, I had several roles, Full Stack Engineer at an E-com in Venezuela, Front-end and TV App Engineer at a startup in Madrid, Technical Support Engineer at SmartADServer (great company to work for!), again Front-End Engineer at eDreams Odigeo and then I got the chance to move up the ladder as Team Leader in the same company before moving to London. Currently, I am a Software Engineer Manager at Expedia. I have loved every single role and learned so much! Feel free to reach out if you have questions about my career path.
